Uganda, known as the “Pearl of Africa,” is a country that offers unparalleled beauty and natural wonders. From the iconic River Nile to the towering peaks of Mount Elgon, the landscape here is as diverse as it is breathtaking. This 8-day adventure takes you through the heart of eastern Uganda, offering a mix of cultural immersion, exhilarating hikes, and serene landscapes. At the center of this journey lies Mount Elgon, an extinct volcano once the highest mountain in Africa. Today, it stands at 4,321 meters, boasting rich history, captivating trails, and the promise of a rewarding climb.

About Mount Elgon
Mount Elgon, the eighth-highest mountain in Africa, is one of the continent’s oldest volcanic formations, first erupting around 24 million years ago. Once towering above Kilimanjaro, millennia of erosion have reduced it to its current height, but its immense volcanic base—the largest in the world—remains a geological wonder. The mountain is shared by Uganda and Kenya, with its slopes covered by lush forests, home to over 300 bird species and unique wildlife. The Bagisu and Sabiny tribes inhabit its lower regions, and the mountain holds cultural significance, particularly for the Bagisu people, who refer to it as “Masaba,” their ancestral figure.

Day By Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Entebbe

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide and transferred to your accommodation at Cycad Lodge or Via Via Lodge. Rest and relax as you prepare for the adventure ahead.

Day 2 – Journey to Jinja – The Source of the Nile

After breakfast, set off for Jinja, Uganda’s adventure capital and the starting point of the world’s longest river—the Nile. Visit the Source of the Nile and take a relaxing boat cruise to witness where this majestic river begins its journey. In the afternoon, explore WORI, a community-based project empowering local women. Afterward, unwind at 2 Friends Lodge or Haven Lodge as you soak in views of the Nile. Overnight: 2 Friends Lodge / Haven Lodge

Day 3 – Jinja – Transfer to Sipi Falls

Leave Jinja behind and travel towards the scenic Sipi Falls, located on the foothills of Mount Elgon. Upon arrival, settle into the charming Sipi River Lodge. The afternoon is free to explore the lodge’s surroundings, perhaps taking in the fresh mountain air or going for a short walk to nearby viewpoints.

Day 4 – Explore the Sipi Falls

Spend the day discovering the Sipi Falls, a series of three stunning waterfalls that cascade down the mountain. Hike along scenic trails that take you to the base of each waterfall, with plenty of photo opportunities and the chance to interact with local communities. In the evening, return to the lodge and prepare for the exciting days of hiking ahead. Overnight: Sipi River Lodge

Day 5 – Begin the Ascent – Day 1 of Hiking Mount Elgon

The real adventure begins today as you set off on a multi-day trek to the peak of Mount Elgon. After breakfast, a motorcycle ride will take you to the Budadiri Trailhead, the starting point of your hike. Today’s trail leads through the dense montane forest, where you’ll spot various bird species and possibly some monkeys. After a few hours, you’ll reach the first campsite for the night.

Day 6 – Ascend Higher – Day 2 of Hiking Mount Elgon

Wake up to fresh mountain air and continue your ascent. Today, you will trek through heath and moorland zones, with the landscape gradually changing. The views become more expansive as you get closer to Jackson’s Pool and Jackson’s Peak, both stunning landmarks on the mountain. After a full day of hiking, set up camp and enjoy a hearty meal prepared by your chef.

Day 7 -Summit Push – Day 3 of Hiking Mount Elgon

This is the day you’ve been waiting for—your final ascent to Wagagai Peak (4,321 meters), the highest point of Mount Elgon. Starting early, you’ll trek to the summit, where panoramic views await you. Once you reach the top, take time to savor the incredible achievement and take photos. After descending from the summit, camp on the slopes for the night.

Day 8 – Descend and Return to Sipi – Day 4 of Hiking Mount Elgon

On the final day of the hike, descend back through the forested trails to reach the starting point. A motorcycle ride will pick you up and return you to Sipi River Lodge, where you can relax after your challenging yet rewarding hike.

Day 9: Return to Kampala

After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely morning at the lodge before starting the journey back to Kampala. Upon arrival in Kampala, you’ll have time to explore the city or shop for souvenirs before your departure.
