Our journey began at Entebbe International Airport on May 9, 2023, where we were greeted by our guides Vianny and Gerald. Their warm smiles made us feel right at home, and we couldn’t wait to start exploring the beautiful, lush country of Uganda. Our excitement reached new heights when we laid eyes on the Land Cruiser, specially extended and modified for safari adventures. This beast of a vehicle is an absolute must for any safari enthusiast!

Our first stop was Kibale National Park, where we took a detour to explore the local markets brimming with fresh green produce. The avocados caught our attention with their size and flavor. We can confidently say that Uganda has the best avocados and pineapples in the world! The following day, we headed to the park entrance for chimpanzee trekking, which was the highlight of our day. The park rangers provided us with valuable information, and within an hour, we found ourselves face to face with these incredible primates. It was an unforgettable experience being so close to these amazing creatures!
After successfully completing the chimpanzee trekking, we made our way to Queen Elizabeth National Park, where we stayed at the beautiful Enganzi Lodge with breathtaking views. The next morning was all about game driving, and we were fortunate to spot two lions resting in a tree.
We then embarked on a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, where we were amazed by over 1000 hippos, elephants, and a variety of bird species. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip! Our journey took us to the southern part of the park known as Ishasha, where we woke up early in the morning to search for the tree-climbing lions, the only lions known for their tree-climbing habits. After a two-hour safari, we finally found them, and it was an awe-inspiring experience.
Later that day, we headed to our final destination, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. We arrived at the park in the afternoon and were greeted by the lodge staff, who briefed us about gorilla trekking, which was our main activity for the following day. It was a challenging and adventurous five-hour journey to reach Bwindi, but it was worth every moment. We couldn’t wait for the gorilla trekking, which would be the pinnacle of our entire trip.
Are you excited? The best is yet to come – today is our big day with the gorillas! As we entered the park, we were greeted by the majestic beauty of the impenetrable forest, home to over 1500 mountain gorillas. Our guide was informative and friendly, showing us different plant species and sharing the forest’s history and its importance in gorilla conservation. After a thorough briefing and witnessing a wonderful local dance performance, we were divided into small groups, and luckily, we were joined by a lovely couple from Mexico.
Our guide, Vianny, introduced us to the family we were going to visit, and at that moment, the head guide began explaining the history and characteristics of each family member. We were eager to meet the “BWEZA” family. Our trekking adventure led us to the “Bweza” family, one of the many gorilla families in the park. As we approached, we could hear the sounds of the gorillas communicating with each other. It was an incredible sensation to be so close to these gentle giants. For one hour, we observed the gorillas in their natural habitat, witnessing them play and interact with one another. It was a unique experience, and we felt a profound sense of gratitude for witnessing such a beautiful sight.
After our time with the gorillas, we returned to our starting point to receive our graduation certificates. It was an honor to be part of the conservation efforts for these incredible creatures, and we felt a sense of accomplishment and pride for what we had achieved. After our encounter with the mountain gorillas, it was time to continue to the smallest park in the country, Lake Mburo National Park, but undoubtedly the most beautiful. Named after the central water body that stands firmly in its center, Lake Mburo never ceased to amaze us. Thanks to our guide, we had the closest encounter with giraffes compared to all our previous journeys.
We also had the opportunity to walk alongside these amazing and elegant creatures. Zebras were scattered everywhere, filling the park with a colorful display of stripes. During the game drive, we always took a break to enjoy the Nile Special, Uganda’s finest brew that we had the pleasure of tasting.
We jumped and had all the fun we desired, and with this final park, we bid farewell to the Pearl of Africa, as the next day marked our journey to the airport. We concluded our adventure by sitting right at the edge of Lake Victoria, at the Two Friends Lodge, from where we were driven to the airport. We were escorted to the entrance, bidding our goodbyes with great happiness at having accomplished our dream, yet feeling a twinge of sadness as we left the Pearl of Africa behind. It is a country like no other, filled with beauty, friendly people, and amazing experiences.
